The Power of TouchCategory: General   Jul 1st 2016  12:50PM   0

“See how she leans her cheek upon her hand.
O, that I were a glove upon that hand
That I might touch that cheek!”
― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Her hand touches yours, and you feel an electric surge.

You move closer together, lips touching, setting off a cascade of sensations and torrent of emotions.

Her hips press against you, and she feels your desire grow.

Touch is a magic sensation.  It can spark sexual desire in an instant.  It can reassure the stressed, soothe the angry, comfort the sad, and convert the merely happy to the ecstatic.

Are you getting enough touch in your life?  Or are you touch deprived?  Do you initiate touch or are you the receiver?  How does it feel to you to be touched?

When was the last time you had a massage?  Remember the wonderful, warm, wringing of stress from your muscles by strong, competent hands working over your body?

How about the last hug you had?  Was it a perfunctory, keep your distance type of hug?  Or was it a full body embrace?  You know the difference – the first gives you very little sensation, while the latter can make you feel loved, respected and even validated as a human being.

We all love to be loved and respected.  But sometimes distance grows between people, perhaps from being overworked, distracted by events in our lives, growing in different directions, or moving to new cities and having to make new connections.  But we all need touch at a fundamental level.  We need connection with others, physically as well as emotionally and intellectually.  Babies who are not touched enough fail to thrive.  I’d say that is true no matter how old or young we are.

Give someone the gift of touch, and you will give it to yourself right back!  This is one gift that benefits both giver and receiver.  Go ahead – reach out and touch that somebody you’ve been longing to hold!

“your hand
touching mine.
this is how
galaxies
collide.”
― Sanober Khan

“This is what it means to be loved... when someone wants to touch you, to be tender...”
― Banana Yoshimoto, The Lake

“Everywhere he touches is fire. My whole body is burning up, the two of us becoming twin points of the same bright white flame.”
― Lauren Oliver, Delirium
